About

Karin is a sculptor specialized in portraits. Each portrait is unique, with its own soul and character. For portraits in bronze a variety of different patina can be used and the choice for patina is made in consultation with the patron.

Her portraits are realistic, but not just a simple copy of a face. The portraits do reflect specific characteristics and elements that create personality. Some are extravert, others introvert. Some look vulnerable. others forceful.

Karin is inspired by specific trends in the history of sculpture, such as Roman antique sculpture and Dutch 20th century artists. The Netherlands has a long standing tradition in the art of making portraits. Just like photography did not make the art of painting less important, the new techniques of 3D printing will not replace the classic art of sculpture.

Karin Kannekens-Ruseler attended lessons at the Gooise Academy for Expressive Arts and the Wackers-Academie in Amsterdam and was tutored at the ateliers of various Dutch sculptors. She also attended a Portrait Master Class with Valentina Zlatarova in London.
